Sometimes the most important things don’t have words yet. Art therapy offers a different language - one made of colour, image, and form - for the parts of you that are ready to be heard.

Art Therapy

A therapy that speaks in images

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the creative process — drawing, painting, collage, clay, and more — as a pathway to self-expression and healing. It is grounded in the understanding that not everything can be, or needs to be, put into words.

For people who have experienced trauma, feel emotionally stuck, or find traditional talk therapy difficult, art therapy can open doors that words alone cannot.

At Soulshine Sanctuary, art therapy sessions are led by Coco Huang, RTC, CATA — a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association who brings deep compassion and creative skill to every session.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Some clients notice change in 6–12 sessions for a focused target; complex trauma can take longer. We will check in regularly on your progress and adjust the plan together.

  • Yes — we offer secure video sessions with adapted bilateral stimulation, available to clients anywhere in British Columbia.

  • EMDR helps your brain reprocess distressing memories so they stop triggering present‑day reactions. Guided by a trained therapist, you briefly recall a target memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation (eye movements, taps, or tones). This dual focus lowers emotional intensity, links the memory to more balanced beliefs, and reduces symptoms like hyperarousal, avoidance, and anxiety.
