Frequently Asked Questions

  • Holistic counselling is an integrative approach to mental and emotional wellbeing that considers your whole self — mind, body, and spirit. Rather than focusing solely on thoughts or behaviours, holistic counselling also explores what your body is holding, your sense of meaning and values, and the relational patterns that shape your life. At Soulshine Sanctuary in Burnaby, BC, we blend clinical expertise with somatic, mindfulness-based, and attachment-informed approaches tailored to each person.

  • Yes. We provide secure video sessions across British Columbia. Online counselling allows you to receive support from the comfort and safety of your own home, without any travel required.

  • Many extended health plans cover sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) or Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC). We recommend checking your plan's specific coverage limits and reimbursement process. We provide a detailed receipt after each session for you to submit to your insurer.

  • We believe support should be accessible. We reserve a limited number of sliding-scale spots in our practice. Please ask about availability during your free consultation and we will do our best to find an arrangement that works for you.

  • If you were involved in a motor vehicle accident in BC, ICBC may cover the cost of counselling sessions to support your emotional and psychological recovery. You do not need a referral — ICBC clients can access counselling directly. We can help you understand your coverage and get started. Contact us to learn more about eligibility and how to begin.

  • In British Columbia, psychologists hold a doctoral degree and are registered with the College of Psychologists of BC. Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) hold a master's degree and are registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Both are trained mental health professionals providing evidence-based therapy. The approaches and quality of care are comparable — the main difference is in regulatory body and, in some cases, insurance coverage.

  • Trauma-informed therapy means that the counsellor understands how trauma affects the mind, body, and nervous system — and shapes every part of the therapeutic relationship accordingly. It prioritises safety, trust, collaboration, and your sense of control. At Soulshine Sanctuary, all of our work is grounded in trauma-informed principles, whether or not trauma is the primary presenting concern.

  • This varies greatly from person to person and depends on your goals, your history, and how you respond to the work. Some clients find meaningful relief in 6–12 sessions; others benefit from longer-term support. We check in regularly about your progress and never lock you into a set number of sessions. You are always in the driver's seat.

  • You can book a free 20-minute consultation directly through our Jane App booking link, or by reaching out via our contact page. The consultation is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation to see whether we are a good fit for your needs.
