Our Approaches
At Soulshine Sanctuary, we are your safe place to gain clarity, break cycles, (re)claim control and explore a different way of being. Each person’s journey and needs are different and at Soulshine Sanctuary we take pride in using our expertise and knowledge in creating your own individualized treatment plan.
Below are some of the modalities we may draw upon for your individualized treatment plan.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps individuals process and heal from traumatic or distressing memories. The interesting part of EMDR is that it does not require talking in detail about the presenting concern or problem. This therapy helps the brain work through the traumatic memory in a new way, making it feel less upsetting and creating healthier emotional connections. It can be a transformative therapy that empowers people to integrate past experiences that promotes resilience, emotional balance and a sense of peace.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional challenges. By helping clients recognize unhelpful beliefs and develop healthier ways of thinking and reacting, CBT empowers individuals to manage issues like anxiety, depression, and stress more effectively. It’s an active, goal-oriented, present focused and brief approach to therapy.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of talk therapy that teaches people skills to manage strong emotions, improve relationships, and handle stress. Originally developed to help people with intense emotions, DBT combines mindfulness with practical skills to build resilience, improve emotional regulation, and promote positive behaviors. This approach is often helpful for people dealing with challenges like anxiety, depression, and borderline personality disorder.
Emotion-Focused Therapy
Emotion-Focused Counseling is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals explore and understand their emotions to foster personal healing and growth. By focusing on emotions as key sources of insight and change, this therapy encourages clients to recognize, process, and transform difficult feelings like anger, sadness, or fear. Emotion-Focused Counseling is especially effective for individuals facing relationship challenges, trauma, or stress, as it helps build emotional resilience and a stronger sense of self.
Meditation
Meditation is a mental practice that involves training the mind to achieve a state of focus and awareness. The practice aims to quiet the mind, cultivates a sense of clarity and peace, and promotes relaxation. It is a great complementary modality used specifically to help with:
anxiety
stress
emotional regulation
enhancing self awareness
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment with curiosity, openness, and without judgment. It involves being fully aware of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. Rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, mindfulness encourages focusing on what is happening now.
“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it… only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”
— Brene Brown
