Navigating Loss
Grief and Loss Counselling in Burnaby Heights and Online Across BC
Grief does not follow a straight line. It circles, surges, and sometimes arrives years later.
Whatever you are carrying, you deserve a space to grieve it fully - without a timeline.
Grief is not limited to the death of a loved one. It can also arise after the end of a relationship, a health change, a traumatic event, a shift in identity, or the loss of a hoped-for future. However it shows up, grief deserves care and space.
Loss reshapes us. Whether you have lost someone you love, a relationship, a version of yourself, or a future you had imagined, grief is a natural and necessary response — not something to move through quickly. Counselling holds space for the complexity of loss without rushing you toward resolution.
What Grief Counselling Can Help with
Bereavement — the loss of a loved one, partner, parent, or friend
Anticipatory grief while supporting someone who is seriously ill
Pregnancy loss, miscarriage, stillbirth, and infertility grief
Pet loss and the grief that others may not fully understand
Loss of identity — through illness, disability, or major life change
Relationship endings, divorce, and estrangement
Career or role loss and the grief of an imagined future
Complicated grief — when loss feels stuck, frozen, or overwhelming
Our Approach to Grief Counselling
Our work with grief is relational and non-prescriptive. Narrative therapy invites you to honour the meaning of what — and who — you have lost, weaving loss into your story rather than trying to excise it. Somatic approaches help the body process what the mind may not yet have words for.
There is no "getting over" loss. The aim is integration — learning to carry grief in a way that does not swallow you whole, and gradually finding a way to live alongside it with more ease, meaning, and presence.
